Um ein Live Album herauszubringen bedarf es nicht nur guter Aufnahmetechnik und fähiger Soundingenieure, sondern auch einer guten Portion Selbstbewusstsein. Und davon haben die Jungs von Soho Dukes genug. Verständlich, denn was die Truppe um Leadsänger Johnny Barracuda da auf die Bühne bringt, kann man nur als Oberklasse bezeichnen. Aufgenommen wurde dieses Album zum Ende einer UK Tour, bei der die Soho Dukes für "The Quireboys" eröffneten.
Schnörkellos lassen sie es gleich mit dem ersten Titel "Home Sweet Camden Town" krachen und legen das Fundament für das gesamte Konzert, denn das Tempo bleibt über die restlichen 12 Lieder fast durchgängig hoch. So hört sich Rock 'n' Roll in Reinform an. Dabei wurden die Aufnahmen perfekt abgemischt, ein Lob an die Technikabteilung! Die Instrumente klingen knackig, egal ob Drums, Piano oder Gitarre. Der Gesang ist klar, ebenso wie die Adlibs, und das Publikum hört man in den richtigen Momenten. Zwischendurch kommt es einem fast vor, als ob es sich um ein Studioalbum handeln würde, wenn nicht die Stimme an manchen Stellen typisch für Live-Konzerte "ploppen" würde.
Die Soho Dukes haben sich in den letzten knapp 10 Jahren ihres Bestehens den Ruf eines Geheimtipps erarbeitet. Hoffen wir, dass das nicht nur dabei bleibt. Wenn man sich ein richtig gutes Live Rock 'n' Roll Erlebnis für "zuhause" gönnen möchte, dann liegt man mit diesem wunderbaren Album genau richtig. Die komplette Scheibe ist temporeich, kräftig, ohne Slowdowns und macht Laune, die Band mal live zu erleben.

Recording a live album requires not only good equipment and skilled sound engineers, but also a good dose of confidence. And the guys from Soho Dukes have plenty of that. Quite understandably, as what the band around lead singer Johnny Barracuda delivers live on stage can only be described as top-tier. The album was recorded at the end of a UK tour, where Soho Dukes opened for "The Quireboys".
They kick things off instantly with the opening track "Home Sweet Camden Town" and lay the foundation for the entire concert, as the tempo stays consistently high across all the remaining 12 songs. This is pure Rock 'n' Roll. The recordings are mixed to perfection, kudos to the tech crew! Whether it's drums, piano, or guitar, the instruments sound crisp. The vocals are clear just as the ad-libs, and the audience comes through at just the right moments. At times, it almost feels like a studio recording, if it weren't for the voice occasionally "popping", typical of live shows.
Over the last nearly 10 years of their existence, the Soho Dukes have earned themselves a reputation as an insider tip. Let's hope it doesn't just stop there. If you want to treat yourself to a genuinely great live Rock 'n' Roll experience "at home", you can't go wrong with this wonderful album. The entire record is fast-paced, powerful, free of slowdowns, and makes you want to see the band live on stage.
