Neues Spiel neues Glück. Anders kann man das was nun folgt wohl nicht beschreiben. Im Jahr 1989 machten sich die drei Künstler, Dero, CR4P und FLUX, auf etwas völlig neues zu schaffen und legten mit ihrer Band, Oomph, den Grundstein für das neue Genre, Neue deutsche Härte. Wobei hier erwähnt sei, dass der Begriff, Neue deutsche Härte, ursprünglich aus der Punk-Szene stammt. Von nun an gab es also harte, Industrial und Wave durchsetze, Rockmusik, mit deutschen Texten. Kritisch, Lebensnah und oftmals bewusst und gewollt Provokativ. Oomph legten nicht nur den Grundstein für diese neue musikalische Ausrichtung, sondern gaben auch den Anstoß für zahlreiche ihnen folgenden und heute zum Teil sehr erfolgreichen weiteren NDH Bands, wie sie in unserer Zeit genannt werden. Hier alle Namen aufzuführen würde den Rahmen sprengen. 2021 dann, nach mehr als dreißig Jahren Bandgeschichte, vielen Erfolgen und Auszeichnungen, kam für Dero das Aus als Frontmann und Sänger der Band. Zwar erreichte das letzte mit ihm aufgenommene Studioalbum, Ritual, 2019 das erste Mal die Spitzenreiterposition der deutschen Albumcharts, doch auch dieser „Gewinn“ änderte nicht am Weggang des charismatischen Sängers, der für viele einfach Oomph war.
2023 nun warten die Niedersachsen nun mit neuem Album und neuem Sänger auf. Dies wirft für viele, und auch für mich gleich mehrere „Probleme“ auf. Zum einen mag ich Oomph und ihre Musik. Zum anderen habe ich mich natürlich wie fast jeder, an einen Dero als Frontmann gewöhnt. Dann ist da nun der neue Mann am Mikrofon. Daniele Schulz. Man kennt ihn als „Der Schulz“ oder natürlich als Frontmann/Sänger und Energiebündel von Unzucht. Ob sich das nun alles mit einander verträgt, ob der Schulz ein würdiger Ersatz ist oder nicht, muss an dieser Stelle jeder für sich selbst entscheiden. Ich werde hier jedenfalls was diesen Punkt betrifft kein Urteil fällen.
Oomph im Jahre 2023 heißt ein kompletter Neustart, für eine Band mit über dreißigjähriger Geschichte. Es heißt ein neues Kapitel zu schreiben und sich auf keine Vergleiche einzulassen. Oomph 2023 heißt auch, Richter und Henker, das neue Album, mit zwölf neuen Songs, von denen im Vorfeld bereits der eine oder andere als Single veröffentlicht wurde um einen Vorgeschmack auf genau dieses neue Album zu vermitteln. Richter und Henker ist ein Album, welches voll und ganz im Style der NDH Szene liegt. Deutsche Texte, mit sehr viel Tiefgang und Kritik. Man spricht Themen unser wie vergangener Zeiten an, und hier besonders solche, die stets wiederkehrend sind. Nur ein Mensch, zum Beispiel, behandelt das Thema Krieg, welches gerade jetzt allgegenwärtig zu sein scheint. Aber auch sonst, sind die Texte ein Rundumschlag gegen Ignoranz, Ungerechtigkeit und das menschliche Ungleichgewicht unserer Tage. Wut, ein Song bei dem Oomph tatkräftige Unterstützung von niemand geringeren als dem Meister, Joachim Witt, erhalten, steht allein durch seinen Namen, als bestes Zeugnis für die Inhalte des gesamten Werks. Musikalisch bewegt man sich wie gewohnt im Bereich der düsteren Töne des Rock, gepaart mit Industrial und New Wave Einflüssen.
Als Fazit, Oomph sind auch 2023 in neuer Formation weder aus der Szene wegzudenken noch totzukriegen. So spricht die Textzeile des Openers, Wem die Stunde schlägt, „Totgesagt, doch stehen noch – Verdammt, wir leben noch!“ für sich selbst und bedarf keiner weiteren Erklärungen.
Herzlich Willkommen in einer neuen Ära und einem weiteren Kapitel unter dem Zeichen der Neuen deutschen Härte und dem Namen, der diese Bewegung erst auslöste…
New game new luck. There is probably no other way to describe what follows. In 1989, the three artists, Dero, CR4P and FLUX, set out to create something completely new and with their band, Oomph, laid the foundation for the new genre, Neue deutsche Härte. It should be mentioned here that the term, New German Hardness, originally comes from the punk scene. From now on there was hard, industrial and wave interspersed rock music with German lyrics. Critical, true to life and often consciously and intentionally provocative. Oomph not only laid the foundation for this new musical direction, but also gave the impetus for numerous other NDH bands that followed them, some of which are very successful today, as they are called in our time. Listing all the names here would go beyond the scope. In 2021, after more than thirty years of band history, many successes and awards, Dero ended as the band's frontman and singer. Although the last studio album recorded with him, Ritual, reached the top of the German album charts for the first time in 2019, this “win” did not change the departure of the charismatic singer, who for many was simply Oomph.
In 2023 the Niedersachsen band will now have a new album and a new singer. This raises several “problems” for many, including me. For one thing, I like Oomph and their music. On the other hand, like almost everyone, I've gotten used to a Dero as a frontman. Then there is the new man at the microphone. Daniele Schulz. He is known as “Der Schulz” or of course as a frontman/singer and bundle of energy from Unzucht. At this point, everyone has to decide for themselves whether all of this is compatible and whether Schulz is a worthy replacement or not. In any case, I will not pass judgment on this point.
Oomph in 2023 means a complete new start for a band with over thirty years of history. It means writing a new chapter and not getting involved in any comparisons. Oomph 2023 also means Richter and Henker, the new album, with twelve new songs, one or two of which have already been released as singles in advance to give a foretaste of exactly this new album. Richter und Henker is an album that is completely in the style of the NDH scene. German texts, with a lot of depth and criticism. Topics of our time and those of the past are discussed, and especially those that are constantly recurring. Only one person, for example, deals with the topic of war, which seems to be omnipresent right now. But the texts are also an all-round strike against ignorance, injustice and the human imbalance of our days. Wut, a song in which Oomph receives active support from none other than the master, Joachim Witt, stands alone in its name as the best testimony to the content of the entire work. Musically, as usual, the band moves in the dark Sounds of rock, coupled with industrial and new wave influences.
In conclusion, Oomph will neither be an indispensable part of the scene nor dead in 2023 in a new formation. So the lyric of the opener, for whom the bell tolls, “Declared dead, but still standing - Damn, we are still alive!” speaks for itself and requires no further explanation.
Welcome to a new era and another chapter under the sign of the New German Hardness and the name that triggered this movement in the first place...
