Sie waren eine der ganz großen Bands der 80er Jahre Heavy Metal und Hair Metal Bewegung. Und es gibt sie tatsächlich noch Heute, auch wenn schon lange nicht mehr in Urbesetzung und mit oft wechselnden Mitgliedern, aber offiziell sind sie noch immer am Start. Die Rede ist von der Band, die bereits mit dem Cover ihrer ersten EP für Aufregung sorgten, zierte doch dieses, das sexy Fahrgestell einer jungen Lady, an dem sich die kleinen niedlichen Nager, deren Namen die Band verdient, empor hangelten. Die Rede ist natürlich von Ratt. 1983 erschien die eben genannte EP und schlug sofort in der noch jungen Hard Rock Szene ein wie eine Bombe. Da wunderte es nicht, das auch das Debüt Album und die nachfolgenden echte Klassiker ihrer Zeit werden sollten. Gegründet wurde die Band schon 1979 von Sänger und Frontman, Steven Percy und Gitarrist Chris Hagar. Die Erfolgsjahre hielten dann auch tatsächlich bis ins Jahr 1991, als Steven Pearcy beschloss die Band zu verlassen. Bereits in diesen ersten Jahren wechselte das Lineup sehr häufig, konnte aber stets erfolgreich Alben produzieren und auch an den Mann/die Frau bringen.
Zwischen 1992 und 1997 herrschte vorerst Stillstand im Bandlager, bis Steven Pearcy sich dazu entschied einen Neustart zu wagen. Dieser hielt allerdings wieder nicht lange und Percy verließ die Band im Jahr 2000 erneut.
Ratt holten erst Lynch-Mob-Sänger Robert Mason als Ersatz, bei einer Tour mit den L.A. Guns und Warrant stand dann aber Ex-Love/Hate-Sänger Jizzy Pearl am Mikrofon. Als zweiter Gitarrist war überraschend John Corabi (Ex-Sänger von Mötley Crüe, Union, The Scream) mit dabei. Eine Europatour mit Alice Cooper und Dio folgte.
Stephen Pearcy startete unterdessen seine eigene Version von Ratt und tourte mit Vince Neil, Slaughter, Britny Fox und Vixen durch die Vereinigten Staaten. Ein darauf folgender Rechtsstreit sah Pearcy als Verlierer. Er durfte nicht weiter unter dem Namen Ratt auftreten und musste die Einnahmen der Tour an die Band abführen. Allerdings durften die „richtigen“ Ratt ohne Pearcy keine Alben veröffentlichen, was den Entscheid etwas relativiert.
Bereits 2006 machten dann Gerüchte einer anstehenden Reunion die Runde, die die Band selbst aber unkommentiert ließ.
Man trat ab 2007 zwar wieder mit Pearcy am Mikrofon auf und veröffentlichte 2010 gar mit dem Album, Investation, dass bisher letzte Album, konnte aber irgendwie nicht mehr an die glorreichen Jahre anschließen, was 2014 zu erneuten Ausscheiden von Pearcy führte. Seither wird Joshua Allan als Sänger geführt.
Nun, im Jahr 2023 kommt als mit einer fünf CD Box mit Namen, The Atlantic Years ein Best of das die ersten fünf und somit die wahren Klassiker beinhaltet auf den Markt. Ob nun Geldmacherei oder der Versuch eine Erinnerung an glorreiche Zeiten erneut aufleben zu lassen, der Grund hinter diesem Boxset ist, dass darf an dieser Stelle jeder für sich entscheiden. Wichtig ist hier nur, das mit dieser Box ein Teil der ganz großen Heavy Metal Geschichte erneut erzählt wird und sicherlich nicht nur für alteingesessene Fans ein wahres Geschenkt darstellt. Wir jedenfalls feiern hiermit Ratt und ihre unvergessenen Hits… In diesem Sinne, Round and Round….

And they actually still exist today, even if the original line-up is long gone and the members often change, but officially they are still at the start. We're talking about the band, who already caused a stir with the cover of their first EP, as this one adorned the sexy undercarriage of a young lady, on which the cute little rodents, whose name the band deserves, climbed up. Of course we are talking about Ratt. The aforementioned EP was released in 1983 and immediately hit the fledgling Hard Rock scene like a bomb. So it was not surprising that the debut album and the following should also be real classics of their time. The band was founded in 1979 by singer and frontman Steven Percy and guitarist Chris Hagar. The years of success actually lasted until 1991, when Steven Pearcy decided to leave the band. Already in these first years the lineup changed very often, but was always able to successfully produce and sell albums. Between 1992 and 1997 there was a standstill in the band camp until Steven Pearcy decided to start over. However, this didn't last long and Percy left the band again in 2000. Ratt first brought in Lynch Mob singer Robert Mason as a replacement, but then ex-Love/Hate singer Jizzy Pearl took the mic on a tour with the L.A. Guns and Warrant. Surprisingly, John Corabi (ex-singer of Mötley Crüe, Union, The Scream) was there as second guitarist. A European tour with Alice Cooper and Dio followed. Stephen Pearcy, meanwhile, launched his own version of Ratt and toured the United States with Vince Neil, Slaughter, Britny Fox and Vixen. A subsequent lawsuit saw Pearcy as the loser. He was no longer allowed to perform under the Ratt name and had to pay the tour's earnings to the band. However, the "real" Ratt weren't allowed to release any albums without Pearcy, which puts the decision into perspective. As early as 2006, rumors of an upcoming reunion made the rounds, which the band itself left uncommented. From 2007 they performed again with Pearcy on the microphone and in 2010 they even released their last album, Investment, but somehow they couldn't continue the glorious years, which led to Pearcy leaving again in 2014. Since then, Joshua Allan has been listed as a singer. Well, in 2023 a five CD box called The Atlantic Years, a best of that includes the first five and thus the true classics, will be released on the market. Whether it's money-making or trying to relive a memory of glory days, the reason behind this box set is that everyone can decide for themselves at this point. The only important thing here is that with this box a part of the great heavy metal story is told again and certainly not only represents a true gift for long-established fans. In any case, we're celebrating Ratt and her unforgettable hits... In this sense, Round and Round
